"The offensive on Zaporizhzhia." What you need to understand about Russia's new cognitive operation.
In Putin's head lives a little Gerasimov, who fuels his belief that "the front could crumble very soon." This is an illusion, a blatant lie from Gerasimov, who is simply playing on Putin's weaknesses to stay in his position and maintain the flow of resources he receives in the army.
Gerasimov became a multi-millionaire during the war, as the Russian military scheme generates a flow of bribes on an industrial scale.
That is why Putin is currently at the forefront of Russia's cognitive operation against the West, which is called the "offensive on Zaporizhzhia." The Russians are pretending that they can reach Zaporizhzhia in the near future from the direction of Vasylivka and almost enter the city.
These actions are entirely related to Trump's negotiation process for peace, his desire to disrupt it, reformat it, and prolong the war until at least spring. These are the Russians' objectives. They are trying to convince the US that they are capable of capturing Zaporizhzhia, although this is not true.
Even by looking at the map of hostilities and knowing the terrain north of Zaporizhzhia, one can understand that no breakthrough can happen there now. Swamps, reservoirs, natural obstacles, and the Ukrainian Defense Forces make it impossible in principle.
But the lie is not based on details and facts, but on emotion – the regional center, Zaporizhzhia. The lie is constructed in such a way that it will be believed in the West, looking at the distances, and not at the terrain and peculiarities of the war.
That's the whole idea.
Russia cannot enter Zaporizhzhia. The city is under threat from the air, but not from infantry at the moment.
